Addison Lee And Jaguar To Test Driverless Vehicles In London

Information of the “world-leading” programs was disclosed by the Department for Business as it declared the winners of a £25 Million investment initiative. The two Government-supported London plans involve car maker Jaguar Land Rover and taxi company Addison Lee.

The first program will set up 15 cars in North Greenwich on 4 taxi services. It will comprise a “go anywhere” service in Greenwich and a feeder service to the Tube station. The ServCity program, spearheaded by Jaguar Land Rover, will trial 6 autonomous Land Rovers in 4 London areas.

A 3rd plan will comprise an autonomous bus taking travelers all over the Forth Bridge into Edinburgh. The 6-month programs are due to roll out by 2021. Greg Clark, Business secretary, who was present this week due to test-drive one of the cars, claimed: “Self-driving vehicles will revolutionize the manner we move people and goods.”

Speaking of Jaguar, all latest cars of the firm will be accessible in a hybrid or electric version from 2020. This data was given by the biggest car maker of Britain earlier, as it paces up plans to upgrade its range of models.

In 2016, the firm, owned by Tata Motors of India, claimed that it might provide greener variants of 50% of its latest line-up by the end of 2020, but it has now paced up its plans.
