Now scientists have come up with a new approach to prevent the spread of MRSA. This is a fatal infection which stops antibiotics from functioning. This kind of infection often spreads at hospitals. This new process has been invented by the scientists of Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health Report.
MRSA computer model has been developed by the team. The scientists used almost 2 million records of admission, From 66 hospitals, which are located at the Stockholm County in Sweden. Data for 6 years was taken into consideration. A model of outbreak was created, which included UK EMRSA- 15, the most frequent MRSA strain that has presence in 16 countries (including United States.)
The model has adapted statistical techniques which are used for weather forecasts. This model stimulates two linked dynamics at an individual scale. The transmission of infections is in hospitals, while some amount is also imported from other communities.
The scientists used patient admission and discharge details; diagnostics details to identify MRSA infected individuals. All these details helped to reveal the ‘stealth colonizers.’ These are people who are infected by MRSA but status is not visible, fall under this category. This system also has the capability to recognize hidden transmission dynamics.
The MRSA also has the capability to determine the probability of a patient to get infected by the same. This method will be also used on other antimicrobial resistant pathogens in future. The system has been validated by virtual outbreaks which were generated by computer models. This is considered to be an economical and effective way for hospitals and public health officers to control MRSA outbreaks and viruses which prevent spread of antibiotic resistant infections. This complete plan has been declared by Jeffrey Shaman, who is the senior author and also the assistant professor of Environmental Health Sciences of Columbia Mailman.
